'Queer Eye' Ready for Renewal The show that has helped straight men look better -- and made over Bravo's ratings profile -- is close to being renewed for a second season. That Bravo would want to pick up more episodes of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" is no surprise. The size of the renewal deal, however, is out of the ordinary: close to 40 episodes, in addition to seven extra first-season shows the network ordered after the series debuted this summer.Renewal of the show is a separate issue from the return of the "Fab Five" -- Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, Carson Kressley and Jai Rodriguez -- whose contracts will likely be renegotiated to raise their relatively meager salaries. The five are taking after the "Friends" cast and standing united in contract talks.Still, co-creator David Collins is confident about the show's future."We won't be shutting off the 'Queer Eye' production engine for quite a while," Collins tells The Hollywood Reporter. "Our relationship with [Bravo parent] NBC and Bravo has been amazing from the start.""Queer Eye" immediately became Bravo's highest-rated series ever in its June premiere and is averaging about 2.5 million viewers a week. Two episodes aired on NBC during the summer, and the show may pop up on the network occasionally in the future. The Fab Five's original contracts paid them only $3,000 per episode, with a built-in 5-percent annual raise. Those deals are likely to be reworked to give them significant pay hikes now that the series is such a success.
